Whale Watching in Hawaii
|
Whale Watching in Hawaii will let you experience the beautiful 'song' which is a series of whistles, groans, creaks and screeches thought to be the male mating song. Maui County is an official sanctuary for humpback whales.

Want to take a whale watching cruise?
If you are visiting Maui, you are in the undisputed whale watching capital in the state of Hawaii.
The humpback spends winters here, bearing their young in the shallow, warm waters. Newborn humpbacks are 10-12 feet in length and weigh between one and two tons. |
|
The humpback whale, should you go on a whale watching cruise, should be kept 100 yards away from the boat. In fact, boats are forbidden by law, to come any closer than that distance.
Whales themselves, may initiate some closer contact and often do so. Just so you know ... keeping a safe distance isn't necessarily a bad thing.
These guys (and girls) are BIG ...

The humpbacks aren't the only whales that are in the area, but they are the undisputed stars of whale watching in hawaii.
Spending their summers in Alaska, chubbing it up, the whales then zip on down to Hawaii to spend their vacation during December through to March.
Each year, more than 900 whales will make their way to the islands, with the mothers and calves staying safely close to shore. |

Apparently humpbacks all sing the same song, although only the males sing.
Drat, not another thing only the guys do!
The whales do not eat while they are on vacation (yikes). Not my kind of fun.
They will lose one third of their body weight during their day in Hawaii.
|
If you could ask the whales to come year after year, at just the perfect time of day, into just the perfect spot for the whale watching cruises ... this would be great! Unfortunately, whale watching in Hawaii does vary from year to year.
|
There are years when the whales are downright boisterous with all kinds of whale antics. What would that be?
Other years, the whales are oddly subdued. Maybe just a little tired from their long journey. Sounds a bit like the rest of us.
