Pearl Harbor Hawaii

Pearl Harbor Hawaii -- is a harbor on the island of Oahu, Hawaii, west of Honolulu. Much of the harbor and surrounding lands is a United States Navy deep-water naval base.

Pearl Harbor was originally an extensive, shallow embayment called Wai Momi (meaning "harbor of pearl") or Pu'uloa by the Hawaiians.

It is also the headquarters of the U.S. Pacific Fleet. The attack on Pearl Harbor by the Empire of Japan on December 7, 1941 brought the United States into World War II.

At 6:09 a.m. the six Japanese carriers launched a first wave of 183 planes composed mainly of dive bombers, horizontal bombers and fighters.

The USS Arizona Memorial perched above the sunken ship of that name. The ship went down with hundreds of its crew during the Japanese attack on December 7, 1941.

For many people, the visit to this site is a pilgramage and appropriate dress is requested.

On the morning of December 7, 1941, aircraft and midget submarines of the Imperial Japanese Navy began a surprise attack on the U.S. Despite long-standing assertions that this attack could have been predicted and prevented by the United States Military, the U.S. forces at Pearl Harbor appeared to be utterly unprepared, and the attack effectively drew the United States into World War II.

The intended result of the attack was to handicap the U.S. Pacific Fleet in such a way that the Imperial Japanese Navy would become the dominate Pacific Navy.

The surprise attack on Pearl Harbor was an essential and extremely strategic action towards the plan on making Japan the super power of the Pacific theater. This attack had been planned for 10 months and the pilots trained vigorously in order to be prepared for total victory.

For Pearl Harbor Day the American Legion placed over 2,500 American flags in honor of those that lost their lives during the attack here in 1941. They also placed 102 Hawaiian State flags in honor of my fellow brothers and sisters stationed here in the islands that have given their all during the current "War on Terror".
