Maui Jim Sun Glasses
|
I absolutely love Maui Jim sun glasses. I spend six months of the year in Hawaii as part of my job writing for this guide so eye protection is VERY important.
I currently own SEVEN, yes "7", of my favorites. Some like shoes, I like glasses.

In 1980 Maui Jim began selling sun glasses filling a huge need in the constantly sunny islands.
In 1986 they developed their unprecedented PolarizedPlus® technology which eliminates glare while still allowing the person wearing the glasses to enjoy the incredible kaleidoscope of colors.
In 1991, they went worldwide with their success.

Many people find direct sunlight too bright to be comfortable. During outdoor activities, the human eye can receive more light than usual. Healthcare professionals recommend eye protection whenever outside to protect the eyes from ultraviolet radiation, which can lead to the development of a cataract.
Maui Jim Sun Glasses block 100% UV.

In 1991 Hester Enterprises purchased the business and worldwide distribution was now possible. In 1994 RLI Vision Corporation was named their mainland distributor. In 1998 they expanded into Canada and France. In 2000, our friends in Australia were added and a sports collection was added to the line. Mexico was added in 2002 and the UK in 2003, with Italy and Germany following in 2004. Spain, Sweden and UAE expansion came in 2006.

In 1999 they came out with the first glass made with memory.
The frames of reading and sun glasses have been made of shape memory alloy as they can undergo large deformations in their high temperature state and then instantly revert back to their original shape when the stress is removed.

Titanium frames were added in 2001 with a spectacularly light finished product. All sets of Maui Jim sunglasses feature polarized lenses, almost all lines are marketed with an oceanic, sporty theme.
