Here is a gorgeous photo of Haleakala National Park on the island of Maui.
Haleakala is still considered to be active.
The summit depression is 7.5 miles long and 2.5 miles wide.
Preserved as a national park, it takes just under two hours to drive from sea level to the 10,000 ft. summit.

If you are an ATV lover, you can take the trip with 9 others. Don't worry, you won't be roaring up and down in a hurry. Haleakala ATV Tours takes you VERY slowly up to the native rain forest high on the slopes. We suggest the early trip because you will most often receive the best weather earlier in the day. The trip lasts three and one half hours and includes lunch.

This is DEFINITELY a favorite but please exercise caution.
More than 70,000 people each and every year will take the downhill (that is an understatement) 10,000 foot cruise from the top of Haleakala on the island of Maui.
We recommend:
Mountain Riders -
808-242-9739,
Maui Mountain Cruisers - 808-871-6014 and
Maui Downhill -
808-871-2155.

Be prepared to be picked up in the wee hours (around 2:30 a.m.) for the journey to the summit. We cannot stress enough "DRESS WARMLY". The temperatures will vary from the low 30's to the mid 40's and you may encounter winds up to 25 mph.
This journey should not be undertaken by anyone who is in poor physical condition. It definitely takes a fair amount of strength and endurance and shouldn't be taken lightly. Don't send your 75 year old grandparents down on this ride. Be smart!

Our recommendation is Pony Express. They specialize in horseback tours in two locations on beautiful Haleakala on Maui, Hawaii. Expertly guided and narrated, you'll feel like you're seeing Maui with a friend who has horses. They can be reached at 808-667-2200.
