Hanauma Bay is Hawaii's most famous snorkeling spot, and also its most popular. If you are a beginner this is the place to go. If you are an expert, you will enjoy this location but probably not the crowds.

If you are visiting the island of a Oahu, and you are an expert snorkeler, there are many excellent locations east of diamond head. The most popular is Maunalua Bay.

Snorkeling off the island of Maui is a dream come true. Clear, clean water with mostly calm surf a good deal of the time, and plenty of coral and fish. There are miles of coastline beginning at the top of West Maui and ending at the South of Maui. You will have an opportunity to see butterflyfish, angelfish, parrotfish, trumpetfish and Moray eels to name a few. It is generally not recommended to feed any of the fish. Most damage to coral is caused by humans grabbing or standing upon it so pick your spots carefully. The water temperatures are like bath water with a low of 75° and a high of 80°.

The big Island of Hawaii features a dazzling array of over 600 species of fish. Kona offers some of the most spectacular snorkeling in the State of Hawaii. There is one location called Kahalu'u Beach Park, where you are permitted to feed the fish using rabbit food. You could also use a ball of rolled up bread in the palm of your hand. When snorkeling do not use your arms very much as you will frighten the fish. Just move them in a gentle fashion.

Lydgate State Park in Kauai is an excellent spot for the beginner. There is a protected ring of boulders that will shield you from the current of the ocean. It is best to visit in the morning. The North Shore has the excellent Ke'e or Tunnels for hawaii snorkeling during the warmer months.

There are a number of places to rent snorkeling gear on the islands and we recommend always wearing either reef shoes or diving fins.

Have you ever gazed into an aquarium and marveled at fish in their own environment? This is exactly how you will feel when you snorkel Hawaii.

On the north shore of Oahu, Shark's Cove is outstanding for hawaii snorkeling during calm seas. On the leeward side, and reasonably close to Waikiki, is Ka'alawai Beach. On the Wai'anae Coast, is Ko Olina which is protected manmade lagoons with good snorkeling near the open ocean.
