Fishing in Hawaii

Fishing in Hawaii will let you experience everything from deep-sea fishing on the Kona Coast to fly-fishing and surf casting.
Did I mention 'I Love Fishing'!

Want to take a Sportfishing Charter?

If you are visiting the Kona Coast on the Big Island of Hawaii, record catches of Pacific blue marlin, yellow-fin tuna and many other gamefish are 'just another day'.

The long shoreline of Hawaii offers the surf caster lots to choose from. Smaller fish are abundant including snapper and jack for Hawaii fly fishing.

Big Island Hawaii Fishing finds coastal waters off Kona drop to great depths extremely quickly. They are also TEEMING with big game fish. Anyone who has had THE BIG ONE on the end of their line, knows the adrenaline that pumps through your body.

The Marlin, known to be a hard fighter with multiple runs, is the undisputed King. There are blue, stripers and occasionally a black. Tipping the scales at 1000 pounds and up are females (who are above 300 pounds). Wouldn't you know it!

You'll also find the wahoo (sounds like a party call to me)! The wahoo is one of the fastest fish in the ocean, will strike hard but will also tire more quickly than a marlin.

Excellent conditions will allow fishing in hawaii with calm sunny conditions over 300 days each year. Easy, fast access to many locations have brought over 100 fishing companies to the islands.

Plentiful all year round the fish are more numerous in the summer.

The largest blue marlin ever caught in the state of Hawaii was 1805 pounds.

Believe it or not, a large number of the 1000 pounders have been caught just outside the harbor. Each day the harbor is flushed by freshwater springs making the water clear and clean.

Licenses aren't required and most boats just troll for whatever fish they can catch.

Deck hands are always available to assist you, so sit back and relax. You'll find half day, full day and even overnight charters. Mornings will find the best conditions.

As would be expected, the bigger the boat, the bigger the cost. Half days will run you $400 - $550, with full days in the $600 - $850 range. Overnighters are even higher depending on a variety of issues.

Now, for that queasy feeling. If you have, or think you might have, seasickness then you should take some medication. Remember, you are fishing in hawaii and this is a once in a lifetime opportunity. You don't want to be hanging over the edge of the boat for any other reason than to look at the huge catch that you have made.
